We live in the 21st century and the world has changed innumerable times since the Holy Bible first appeared. So, those who are less educated or just plain ignorant might think that it says nothing about the modern world of online dating and dating in general. However, we’ve seen time and time again how Bible teaches us lessons that can be applied not just in modern times but for eternity. And when it comes to the question of the Bible and Dating, there are a lot of different topics we can discuss. However, one thing remains the same throughout all of them. And that thing is the infinite wisdom of our Creator, God himself.
We can start with something simple like 2 Timothy 2:22: So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. While youthful passions can be applied to the question of dating, it feels much more pertinent to other “passions” young people are pursuing. In modern times these can be social networks and video games. And as you can see these wise words are still very much relevant. Moving on, pursuing love can be interpreted as dating. After all, no one expects you to marry the first person you meet.
Maybe they’re not Christian at all but don’t believe in God. Something that’s become quite popular and trendy in our culture. And 1 Corinthians 15:33 teaches us that: Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” So, this quest for love that will ultimately result in a happy marriage is a tricky one. And should be approached as such. However, it is clear that all of this is recognized in the Bible. Not straying too far away from our previous lesson, Genesis 2:24 says “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
And if we turn to Proverbs we find even more lessons about this. Proverbs 18:22 says: He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Or Proverbs 31:30 says: Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. And finally, Proverbs 31:10 says: An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. We can focus on this first part that emphasizes this quest we talked about earlier. Now, the form and technicalities of that quest have changed significantly over time.
What hasn’t changed is the purity of those who place their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. This means that all Christians should not shy away from joining dating sites or using dating apps. Moreover, it is their duty toward themselves and towards the Lord to marry and procreate. To usher in the new generation of Christians. And since we live in the Age of The Internet, this is where you can seek that love.
